Olympic weightlifters are often seen as the superhumans of the sporting world. If you’ve ever watched it on the TV you will have seen the amazing demonstration of strength and power as they move a weight 2-3 times their bodyweight from the floor to over their head in a split second.
There are two main lifts in Olympic lifting.
- ‘snatch’ – similar to a wide grip deadlift which turns into an overhead squat
